Using charcoal and pastel on paper to create large scale drawings, I am eager to explore how this direct, dry media can be a tool to change our past, present, and future. If memories - like drawings - are ultimately images, can the images I create be just as important, just as real? If memories are just images, can images create a memory? How can a memory be true? Are images true? I often wonder if I can draw a memory that I never had, and how this drawn image can perhaps change my past. How malleable are the events that have led to this moment, or are they set in stone? Can the images I make have an affect on our physical reality? If I draw myself holding you, will you feel it?
I find freedom and power through drawing, and just like the figures in my artwork, the core of my being doesn’t belong to any one time, place, or category. These beings live more freely than you and I, and will never be in need of any labels or experiences to validate their existence.
