The 5 needle pines are definitely one of my favorite groups of trees. This resilient Limber Pine has chosen a fairly harsh spot, just a few miles down the road from our house. Its stood the test of time, drought and ferocious winds that often accompany the west slopes of our Montana hills. As a result its trunk has been twisted and hollowed out. I was drawn to its overall shape and composition in the landscape, leaning into the path of least resistance
