In the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation, the Far Eastern leopard belongs to category I, as the rarest, critically endangered subspecies with an extremely limited range, the main population of which is located within Russia. Also, the Far Eastern leopard is included in the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Leopard hunting has been banned since 1956. In Primorye, about half of the range of the Far Eastern leopard falls on the territory of the Land of the Leopard National Park, created in 2012.
