The brilliant and harmonic color notes struck by this midsummer scene suggested musical melodies to me, both in the bold strokes of the lily pads and in the shimmering connections and undercurrents between them in the dark and sparkling water. My son is a musician, and while he was still at home his music studio was next to my art studio so I enjoyed listening to him composing as I painted. I enjoy thinking about the parallels between visual and musical creative expression. Soft pastel on Black U Art paper
