The inspiration was a new menorah for the Hanukkah holiday. The goal was to convey the warmth brought by the the light of the menorah, which this year came in cool and darkening days of Autumn's end with approach of Winter's shorter span of daylight. The challenge was to coordinate a limited cool palette for the background, the middle ground of the menorah and candles, and the foreground surface with the warmth of the lighted candles. Another challenge was to manage the orchestration of working with soft and hard pastel. Hard Nupastel was used to make the background, Girault and Carand'Ache pencil was used for the menorah, candles and flame light, and Terry Ludwig pastels were used for the foreground surface. A light application of Sennelier fixative was applied after the background was made and when the composition was completed. Note that the measure of the the dimension is 11.75 inches x 15.75 inches LaCarte Pochette paper.
