Juncos are common in the area where I live but that does not make them any less precious. Just yesterday, one flew into a window of my home and I held him until both eyes were open and he was eager to fly away. I love seeing them in this American Highbush Cranberry, especially during the autumn and early winter. The berries are still bright red, like so many rubies waiting to be plucked. The dappled light in this scene, on this day, made an irresistible subject for a painting. I used pastel sticks, soft pastels, pan pastels and pastel pencils on UArt 400 paper for this painting.
