I liked this grouping of Macrocantha agave at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden (aka my happy place). One of them in particular was in the sunlight while the others were not. I struggled with a name for this painting like "Limelight" or "Spotlight" but what about the rest of the agave? It occurred to me that the one was like a governess or caretaker for the rest. Who knows, maybe it was the "Parent" plant. Duenna is another word for governess - specifically, it is defined as "an older woman acting as a governess and companion in charge of girls, especially in a Spanish family; a chaperone." Since I am descended of a Spanish family from the Canary Islands, this seemed a fitting name.
