From Dust Thou Art
The painting represents another view of the dead/downed agaves I came upon in the Fort Davis mountains. This particular view and specimen really showed the desiccation and withering in the leaves. You can almost see a 'woody' pattern in them as they lose their life - kind of like wrinkles I suppose. So is it death or is it the marks of a life lived? In addition as the outer 'skin' breaks down, you can see the fibers exposed. See additional photos for the detail on the patterning in the leaves.
