Maples and alders heavy with shimmering leaves, holding on for the last golden rays of this glorious October afternoon, created a dramatic theater of light play against a shaded stand of douglas firs. The old barn and sheds seemed to be holding on, too, standing for a nostalgic past. Painted from a photo, I chose to saturate the colors and texture to feel the intensity and mass of all the leaves just about to fall. The patch of blue sky provides the necessary air and depth, and justifies the blue-metal rooftops.
