I visited Guatemala almost 11 years ago and it's one of those places that stayed with me. The food was unbelievable but so was the beauty of the country itself. So i wanted to create a painting showing a country that i loved with a medium that i love.
I took inspiration from a few pictures and in one of them the wall was a bright green, almost as verdant as the foliage i saw in Guatemala. In that photo a little boy was playing but i scraped him out of the image and used the wall as my background.
My main subjects were an elderly woman and her granddaughter taking a rest on a bench. Their actual background was lackluster so i used the green wall instead from my earlier photo. I tend to do that a lot as an artist, use complementary colors and i think it works well for Guatemala: vivid landscapes and wonderful people deserve bright colors.
