Warm pastures and rolling hills beckoned me to paint this scene. I wanted warm pastures to contrast with a calm, cool sky. To do this, I started off with an orange underpainting for the sky and a red underpainting for the hills. When I painted over it, l wanted little bits of the underpainting to show through to have a little contrast and visual interest.
