I was thinking of what to paint for my child's play collection and i realized I miss the carefree summer days when I'd lounge around the pool and my brother would jump into the water and make a cannonball with huge waves, splash me and my friends, and we'd start fighting (we were a year apart, the fighting was always inevitable)! That's what I wanted to capture in this painting. I wanted the energy and the feeling of water splashing everywhere to be front and center of the painting.
To create the sense of energy, I did a bright quinacridone underpainting with an alcohol wash and layered hues of turquoise and blue but I left patches of the underpainting showing through. This to me created energy and a sense of fun!
